History of the journal
The Commission's journal, Legal Pluralism and Critical Social Analysis, is devoted to scholarly writing and documentation on all aspects of legal pluralism everywhere in the world and at all times.
The journal is a refereed, independent, interdisciplinary, international journal with a long history of publishing leading scholarship in the area of legal anthropology and legal pluralism. It is the only international journal dedicated to the analysis of legal pluralism. Published since 1969, first under the title African Law Studies (issues 1-18), then The Journal of Legal Pluralism and Unofficial Law (volumes 45-53), in March 2013 the journal became the official publication of the Commission on Legal Pluralism, available through the Taylor & Francis group. Since 2013 the journal has been published in volume format (volume 45 onwards). The journal title was changed to Legal Pluralism and Critical Social Analysis in 2022 (volume 54 onwards).
Subscriptions
The journal is available through the Taylor & Francis group and there are now three issues per year, available both electronically and in hard copy. The annual fee for membership of the Commission on Legal Pluralism is €31.26, which includes online access to the journal, or €53 including both online access and a printed copy of the journal.
